The technical and commercial advantages
of producing parts through the Powder Metallurgy Process are that it offers
a unique opportunity to produce close-to-size components cost effectively.
The additional benefit of this process is that it shows versatility in
production – from dense parts like gears to porous parts like filters
and self lubricating bearings. The process has been very well established
and is being updated-the thrust being continuous improvement.

The
Process
The process consists of the following:
Mixing : Mixing consists of blending of various powders,
like iron powder, Copper powder, Tin powder, Carbon, Speciality lubricants
& chemicals etc into a uniform non-segregating powder mix.
Compacting: We have pressing capacity upto 100 T installed.
Higher capacity machines are planned in near future. Tooling designed
to produce the parts close to net size on sintering. We have adopted
the best possible toll design, tool rigs and tooling system for the
production at higher densities.
Pressing: Our mechanical and hydraulic press equipment
can make a wide range of part sizes and shapes. We currently produce
complex multilevel parts as well as bushings and bearings. Our presses
have a range upto 100 T enabling us to efficiently produce small, medium
and large size parts.
Sizing: We have sizing presses ranging from 5T to 100T. By the use of
Hard Metal tool elements in most cases we have established a highly
productive and economical sizing practice.
Material Blending: SSP can blend material to customer
specifications. Often a pre-blend is available to reduce cost. We use
a wide variety of materials. These include iron, steel, copper steel,
low alloy steel, copper infiltrated steel, copper, brass, bronze and
other speciality alloys. There are also other materials that are available
that can be blended to your specifications.
Steam Treatment: Steam Treatment is a process of controlled
oxidation of ferrous parts where the base metal Iron and its oxides
like ferrous oxide are further oxidized to a more stable ferric oxide
state. This process prevents rusting of ferrous parts.
Oil & Resin Impregnation: In-house facilities are
provided for impregnating parts with oil and carrying out steam treatment
as and when required.
Secondary Operations:
a) Machining Operations like drilling, tapping, groove cutting, grinding
is done in house. We have involved Speciality jigs and fixtures for
the above.
b) Iron parts can be treated specially to prevent corrosion.
c) Finishing operations include dry & wet barreling, deburring and
burnishing operations.
Design Facility:
Latest computer aided design facility with 2D and 3D simulations are
utilized for the designing of tooling elements. SSP designs all tooling
required to produce a part to customer specifications. Our computer
aided design system ensures efficiency and accuracy. Our engineering
expertises are standing by to answer queries regarding your powder metal
requirements.
